THE BUSINESS FABRIC OF TARRAGONA CONFIDENT THAT THE NEW 3 GW POWER LINE WILL BRING NEW OPPORTUNITIES

The 3 GW of electricity that will reach the Tarragona region through the renovation and expansion of the electrical transmission line: Escatrón - Els Aubals - la Secuita, with the main destination being the petrochemical hub of Tarragona. But it is not an exclusive line for one sector. It is an infrastructure that opens up opportunities for the entire economy of southern Catalonia to compete in a very solid position, which allows us to dream of investments with magnitudes hitherto unknown.

Maria Mas, managing director of the Tarragona Chemical Companies Association (AEQT), explains that the qualitative leap that the new line will mean for the chemical industry in Tarragona: "immersed in a process of profound transformation towards a new circular, decarbonized economy model", with "investment projects that reflect a firm commitment" to this objective and that "will not be possible without there being a technical adaptation of the transport network and access to current and future needs". This is undoubtedly an essential infrastructure to successfully complete the energy transition.

Regarding the attraction of investments, Sergi Novo, manager of the Southern Catalonia ICT Cluster, agreed that "it is an essential strategic infrastructure that, in addition to providing services to petrochemicals, opens the door to consolidating a large technological industry in the territory."

"This new electrical availability allows us to promote data processing centers, projects linked to artificial intelligence and key digital infrastructures for the future of the territory." They concluded that all this will generate an innovative ecosystem with the attraction of new companies, the creation of startups and specialized SMEs, and hundreds of qualified ICT jobs, with the ability to retain talent, in addition to diversifying our regional economic model.
