The Bellmunt del Priorat Mining Museum, located in the old industrial complex of the Eugènia Mine, is an interpretation center for lead mining in the Priorat region. History of the Museum The Bellmunt Mining Museum was founded in 2002 as the culmination of a long process of recovering and enhancing the town's mining heritage. The project was initiated by the then mayor, Joaquim Torné i Roigé, who, thanks to his dedication and effort, made the creation of the institution possible. Since its foundation, the Museum has had the objective of protecting, conserving and disseminating heritage elements related to mining activity, in order to become an effective instrument of local development, both socially, economically and culturally. The Museum is located in the Eugènia mine complex, close to the town centre, officially inaugurated in December 2002. Since its inception, the institution has been part of the Territorial System of the Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia, and the municipality of Bellmunt del Priorat, thanks to its rich mining heritage, is part of the Industrial Tourism Network of Catalonia. Visit to the mine The most interesting experience is the guided tour of the first floor of the Eugènia Mine. The tour is on foot and allows us to go down to 35 meters deep and travel about 700 meters of galleries through the oldest exploitation of this mine, developed during the last third of the 19th century. We can observe the geomorphological characteristics of the site and the method of searching for and extracting the mineral, thanks to a series of scenographies that represent the different tasks that the miners carried out.
