1. What attracted you to engineering?
I am not literate and within the science career options, engineering offered me a wide range of job opportunities in the future. I didn't have a clear profession: in a factory, teaching ... But I knew that we live in a privileged environment that would allow me to fit into a place where I could enjoy work.
2. How did you experience your training?
For me it was very rewarding. I tried to make the most of all the knowledge that was passed on to me. I also remember a lot of effort, a lot of dedicated hours, getting up very, very early to study ... But I have a good memory of it. It was a good time for me.
3. Did you feel weird in a male environment?
For me it was not strange. Maybe because until I was 14 I was in a school where 85% of the students in the class were boys. For me it was normal to live with guys and I did not find it intimidating or anything like that.
4. Has your hard-working development surrounded by men been easy?
Well here I disagree more with my answer given to the previous question. Although I have to say that overall I felt comfortable in my work environment; I could make an extensive list of people who have supported and helped me. I must also say that I have found myself in cases where coexistence has not always been easy. Ignoring whether the characters may be more akin or not, I’ve come across people who don’t like working in women. That by the simple fact of being a woman, you are inferior and you cannot perform like your fellow men, and best of all they let you know. Others that for the simple fact of being a woman, you don't even have to look at them and of course, not even listen to you. But as they say, let the trees not let you see the forest, so despite these "anecdotes", I make a positive assessment.
5. How do you see the world of engineering for women today?
Well I don’t see that it has changed substantially in the world in which I move. Yes some women are seen in technical positions, but she is not equating much less. Maybe there have been more in recent years, but there is still a long way to go before there is equality (even in numbers). I don’t know if it’s because women still don’t show up to run for certain positions or some other reason.
6. What challenges do we need to overcome?
I am not speaking for my case today, but I am in the past. We must demonstrate time and time again our worth for our work to be considered of the same quality as that of our colleagues. I want to think that with the generational change that is taking place, and with that I don’t want to generalize, some of these problems are solved with virtually no effort. I don’t want to sin innocently, but I think society is also slowly moving in a good direction. We'll see how hard it is to achieve.
