Tarragona College of Engineers visit the Mobile Bridge of the Port of Tarragona

Last Sunday, March 1st, a group of members attended the first visit of the Mobile Port of the Port of Tarragona, organized within the open days in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of its constitution.

The President of the Port, Josep Maria Cruset, was responsible for giving the explanations as a guide for the group. The visit began at the control tower, where formerly 's operating structure and now take this from the Port Police. They then moved to the previous access room inside the bridge, where it is   find the electrical part and security cameras.

Work on the mobile bridge began in August 1998 and was inaugurated fifteen months later. Its construction allowed the connection between the docks of Reus and Lleida, and the heavier vehicles stopped circulating in the urban zone of the district of the Serrallo, thus avoiding the annoyances to the neighborhood .

The installation cost 2500 million pesetas, the structure weighs more than 85 tons and each arm measures over 30 meters. Each time the bridge is triggered, the security operation (traffic lights and sirens) is started. Three 55 kW hydraulic pumps drive the system.
