During the month of May, 50 Department of Work technicians carry out monitoring and control tasks for the development of the 2005-2008 plan
The Department of Work and Industry has launched the new campaign for the prevention of occupational risks "At work, no risk." This initiative has as main objective the integration of the prevention of labor risks in the company. The campaign began on April 28, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day for Workplace Safety and Health, with the aim of promoting the prevention of risks to companies and at the same time raising awareness among entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of the need to invest in occupational safety and health in their respective organizations. It should be noted that during the first quarter of 2006 32 people died in Catalonia as a result of work accidents, while in the same period of 2005 there were 25 people who lost their lives at work.
The Generalitat will devote a total of 104 million euros to develop this plan. The five strategic objectives are: the creation and development of an information and registration system that allows the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the preventive practices of companies; the promotion of behaviors in order to ensure that life and health are a value of the highest order; the monitoring and control of compliance with the regulations; the strengthening of mechanisms for coordination and cooperation between institutions and the promotion of the participation of social and economic agents plus collective bargaining.
Each of these five objectives is deployed in 44 areas of intervention subdivided into 147 actions that are specified in the different programs regulated by the Law on Occupational Risk Prevention Law 35/1995 of November 8 amended by Law 54 / 2003, December 12? and the social dialogue agreements signed in December 2002 between the Ministry of Labor, business organizations and social agents.
One of the most visible parts of this campaign is the television spot, where using the technique of zoom, the four levels of organization of a company are shown: workers, commands, administration, showing the degree of involvement of each workplace in the prevention of occupational hazards. Does the announcement aim to make clear that all the decisions of the company within all its levels of organization - from the external contracts and subcontracts to the purchase of a chair or of heavy machinery - must be taken taking into account all aspects related to the prevention of occupational hazards.
Apart from the measures already outlined, the Generalitat de Catalunya has developed other actions in the field of prevention, surveillance and control, such as the sending of 5,000 communications to Catalan companies that suffer more work-related accidents to comply with the law on the prevention of risks; the qualification of 50 technicians from the Department of Labor and Industry that will do as of May surveillance and control tasks in matters of health and safety at work plus the signing of an agreement with the Office of the Prosecutor's Office to strengthen the mechanisms of coordination and cooperation between institutions with competencies in occupational safety and health.
For its part, the Labor and Social Security Inspection of the Ministry of Labor has made a total of 19,164 actions in the field of Occupational Safety and Health. In particular, 6,552 applications were made, 950 acts were made for an amount of 4,230,187 euros. There were also 48 parishes and 268 proposals for surcharges.
