World Community Grid is a worldwide project, announced in 2004, which uses the unused capacity of personal computers of individuals and companies to create a global network that allows addressing with great power of calculation the research of diseases, natural disasters and environmental problems

It works in the following way: When the computer is not 100% using its process capacity, it will request data from the World Community Grid server. It is estimated that there are over 650 million personal computers worldwide. Each one of them is a potential participant in the "World Community Grid". IBM has donated hardware, software and technical services to create the technological infrastructure that this initiative needs.
