The Generalitat has sent nearly 500 communications to Tarragona companies that suffer the most accidents at work

Nearly 5,000 communications have been distributed throughout Catalonia to 2% of the total number of companies.


The Department of Labor and Industry of the Generalitat of Catalonia has sent 487 companies from the province of Tarragona a statement that they are reminded that they must comply with the law and that the Administration promotes the prevention of occupational hazards and that it monitors, controls and sanction firmly. At the same time, it puts at the disposal of companies all the tools to alleviate the accidental labor and its effects.

In total, 4,944 communications have been sent throughout Catalonia, which are the number of Catalan companies that suffer most accidents at work and that have as a whole a workforce of 392,403 workers. These companies have registered 55,441 mild accidents, 1,198 serious accidents and 50 fatal accidents during the year 2005.

By sectors, the majority of the companies are of the construction (1,191). An important number are companies in the wholesale trade and intermediaries sector (494), the retail trade sector and other repairs (276), the metal products sector (267) and the hotel industry (260 ).

By provinces, Tarragona will receive 487 communications by companies where 27,382 workers work; Barcelona, 3,603 with 321,192 workers, Girona 578 with 30,975 workers and Lleida, 276 companies with 13,854 workers.

During the year 2005, a total of 152,674 accidents occurred in Catalonia: 151,149 of mild, 1,423 of serious and 102 mortals. They are the lowest figures since 2000. In spite of this, Tarragona has the highest incidence rate in the case of the highest death toll in all of Catalonia, 9.11 per 100,000 workers. Lleida has a 6,21, Girona 5,14 and a Barcelona 3.

This initiative with the aim of remembering the regulations and offering help to companies with more work-related accidents is pioneering throughout the State. They represent 2% of the total of Catalonia. It should be noted that 81% of Catalan companies did not suffer any work-related accident during 2005.
