The Ministry of Education and Science will begin in October 2005 with technical teaching, humanities, social sciences, experimental and health sciences.
The Secretary of State for Universities and Research, Salvador Ordóñez presided over on September 21 the second meeting of the commission of experts in charge of analyzing the different proposals for the adaptation of Spanish university degrees to the European Space of Higher Education. This commission, established on July 20, unanimously agreed on the criteria that will govern the designs of the new teachings. The committee also supported the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) in order to select a small group of education in each disciplinary area to begin to develop their respective guidelines. These guidelines will be prepared in several phases that are: October 2005, February 2006, September 2006 and February 2007.
During the first term, this October, the guidelines of the area of Technical Teaching (Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering), the Humanities area (Philosophy, History, etc.) will begin to be elaborated , History of Art, Geography and Modern Languages), the Social Sciences area (Economics, Business Administration, Law, Psychology, Nursery, Primary Education Teaching) and the Area of Experimental Sciences and the Health (Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy).
Regarding the various controversies surrounding the reorganization of the university system, the Secretary of State for Universities and Research, Salvador Ordóñez announced that the Ministry of Education has proposed to the committee of experts to study the guidelines of History of Art as a degree.
