TARRAGONA ENGINEERS PARTICIPATE IN THE INAUGURATION OF THE ETSEQ 25-26 ACADEMIC YEAR

On November 11, the inauguration of the ETSEQ 25-26 academic year took place.

The Higher Technical School of Chemical Engineering (ETSEQ) of the Rovira i Virgili University commemorated the 30th anniversary of its creation, coinciding with the inauguration of the 2025-2026 academic year. The event was chaired by the Rector of the URV, Josep Pallarès, the director of the ETSEQ, Ioanis Katakis, the president of the Social Council, Josep Poblet, the Rector's Hall, institutional representatives, teaching staff, students, former directors and collaborators of the School, as well as representatives of professional associations and companies in the chemical and industrial sector.

The inaugural lecture of the course was given by Jordi Pedrola, senior scientist at Repsol. Entitled "30 years later: the challenge of decarbonization", he highlighted that since the creation of the ETSEQ, global energy demand has skyrocketed and that the global carbon cycle is seriously altered, with CO₂ concentrations at record levels.

The Dean of the College of Industrial Technical Engineers of Tarragona, Mr. Joan Gabriel Talarn, delivered a few words and presented the awards to the best records of the GEQ and GEM Degrees.

At the end of the event, the director of ETSEQ Ioanis Katakis thanked the collaboration of all the people and institutions that have contributed to the growth of the School over the past 30 years, which he defined as "a machine that produces talent". In this sense, he highlighted the good results that the center has obtained in international rankings and the employability and salary level of its graduates, which is above average.
