As you know, COGITI has been denouncing for many years the serious situation that is causing the proliferation of degrees in Engineering in the industrial branch that do not grant professional attributions to exercise the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer (non-qualifying degrees). In this sense, there are even degrees with similar denominations in different universities and which, however, some grant professional attributions and others do not, which causes enormous confusion among students, workers and society itself.
From the General Council they have transferred this problem to the affected ministries (Industry and Universities), to which they have even offered solutions, but they have not obtained any answer on their part, which we deeply regret, since the situation not only remains entrenched , but it gets worse every year, without giving a solution to the thousands of graduates in Engineering without professional qualification.
To make this issue visible, COGITI has prepared a press release to launch in the media, which is attached, in which interesting data and graphs have been collected on those enrolled, both in the degrees in Engineering of the enabling as non-enabling industrial branch, to see the progression from the 2012-2013 academic year to 2019-2020, with data from the Ministry of Universities.
It is time to modernize the engineering professions, and to ensure that students have the right to decide in an engineering manner the engineering studies they want to carry out, given the scarce and confusing information offered to them by universities. In addition, it is worth noting that graduates without a license are forced, in most cases, to continue their studies, which has a very high social impact, not only for the greater investment of time and money, but also for the opportunity cost of entering the labor market, especially when our competitors in the European and world order do so after three or four years of university studies.
