UNE has published in Spanish the European standard UNE-EN 54-1: fire detection and alarm systems, which was approved by CEN on May 23, 2021.
Part 1 of the EN 54 standard is the introductory and defining standard for fire detection and alarm systems installed in buildings, which have various components that communicate for the purpose of:
• Detect a fire as soon as possible.
• Provide an audible and / or visible signal to protect occupants.
• Provide alarm information remotely to authorized organizations to protect buildings and their surroundings.
• Provide signals to start, in case of fire, the operations of other equipment and protection systems.
The performance of the components is assessed through specific tests defined in each of the parts of the EN 54 series, but, on their own, each does not guarantee the correct operation of the set. For this reason, the systems must be jointly evaluated in accordance with EN 54-13.
This new edition includes new terms or revises and corrects existing ones with the intention of updating and unifying their meaning throughout the regulatory series. New definitions include descriptions of distributed control and indication equipment, ECI, and voice alarm control and indication equipment, VACIE.
The standard thus includes in the definition and in a more explicit way, on the one hand, the alarm systems by voice and on the other hand enters to define a distributed control equipment and contrasts it to a hierarchical system or the network. .
