Published new UNE-EN 14972-1, Fixed firefighting systems. Nebulized water systems

This standard is the Spanish version of the European Standard EN 14972-1: 2020, which annuls and replaces the Technical Specification UNE CEN / TS 14972: 2014.

Nebulized water systems for industrial, commercial and residential fire protection include specially designed, pipe-mounted nozzles and connected through control valves to specific water supply. The standard defines the requirements and provides recommendations for the design, installation, inspection and maintenance of all types of fixed ground water spray systems.

The standard contains the object and scope, rules for consultation, terms, definitions and abbreviations; design and the whole procedure; installation and all its procedure; components; essays; inspection and maintenance; required documents; formation; bibliography; etc.

Nebulized water systems emit a tiny droplet mist that controls, suppresses, or extinguishes a fire:

1) absorbing heat from the fire and the vicinity;

2) reducing flames by consuming oxygen by evaporation;

3) blocking some of the heat transferred by radiation to nearby combustible materials; i

4) wetting and cooling the fuel surface. Flammable liquid fires (class B fires) can be extinguished by water spray.

Fires of common combustible materials (class A fires) can be controlled and suppressed, and even extinguished, with misted water.

Spray water can also prevent sudden sudden combustion (flash-over).
