The line of aid aims to encourage the improvement of technological equipment and production processes and the adoption of energy management systems, with the aim of decarbonizing the country's industrial activity. Companies can submit their projects until December 31
The Department of Business and Knowledge, through the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), has made available to companies in the industrial sector 48 million euros for energy efficiency actions, with the aim of decarbonize Catalonia's productive activity and advance in the transition to a new, cleaner, sustainable, democratic and inclusive energy model. Interested companies have until December 31 to submit their projects.
The beneficiaries of the subsidies are SMEs and large companies in the industrial sector, as well as energy service companies (ESE) that act on the basis of an energy service contract with one of the companies indicated. The call is divided into two lines of aid: a first for the improvement of technology in equipment and industrial processes, and a second for the implementation of energy management systems and renewable generation in the industrial field. A maximum aid amount of 9 million euros is established for both lines for the same industrial location.
This line of aid is endowed with resources from the National Energy Efficiency Fund, administered by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), and managed by the ICAEN. The aim is to maximize programs and resources in order to achieve by 2050 an economy and a society of low intensity in the consumption of material resources, low energy intensity and carbon neutrality. Industry is responsible in Catalonia for 27% of final energy consumption and 29% of CO 2 emissions.
The Department of Business and Knowledge, through the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), is the one that manages the aid in Catalonia as a body in charge of elaborating and carrying out the Catalan energy policy and leading the energy transition to Catalonia towards an innovative, renewable, clean, efficient, competitive and decentralized and distributed, participatory, democratic and socially inclusive energy model in the medium and long term.
For Manel Torrent, Director General of Energy, Industrial Safety and Mining Safety and Director of the ICAEN, “the industry is a key sector for the exit of the crisis by the fact that it is fundamental for the improvement of the productivity, innovation, internationalization and the quality of employment, in addition to the tractor capacity it has with respect to much of the rest of the economic sectors. That is why it is important to bet on aid that will help them be more competitive through investment in the energy transition process. If we are more efficient, we will be more competitive. This line of aid to industry is part of the package of measures that the Generalitat de Catalunya has launched to deal with the climate emergency and encourage the transition to a new, cleaner, sustainable and democratic. In addition, the Government is working on a draft Energy Transition Law in order to establish the instruments to achieve a fully decarbonised energy model in 2050. The action is also part of the measures incorporated in the Plan for economic reactivation and social protection, which has been designed by the Government to deal with the effects of the fight against COVID-19 on the Catalan economy and society. ·
