VISIT to the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection

The Work Social "la Caixa" presents an exquisite selection of 60 works from the collection of Baroness Carmen Thyssen. It is a structured tour around the Catalan landscape between 1850 and 1950 that takes advantage of the richness of the collections in order to establish dialogues and links with the international art that is closest to it.

It is a unique opportunity to explore the evolution of the treatment of the landscape that, free of the regulation of the painting of history and portrait, was the genre that
most evolved throughout the nineteenth century.

Impressionism was one of the deepest transformations in the history of western painting. The dissemination of Impressionism coincided with the economic and demographic expansion of Barcelona, and its look towards Paris as an example of modernity, also for the new generations of young artists.

Already in the 20th century in France, Italy and Germany the first avant-garde broke out. What prevailed from then on was the desire to explore new avenues of plastic experimentation in the past.

Works by artists such as Rusiñol, Monet, Matisse, Mir, Meifrèn or Miró will be the subject of a tour organized in five areas of clear didactic will.
